Given the chance I would always suggest taking the bride & groom off on their own to get those special shots on the day. Two weddings recently have proved very successful in doing this. Charlotte & Oliver knew of this great place where there was a waterfall by a stream which enabled us to get these great shots. Then Becky & Gerard chose a field near the church that they have often walked together.

Every wedding photographer knows that it is an occupational hazard that on the wedding day most of the wedding party will turn up with a camera. And why not, as these days with compact digital and cameras on phones everyone has one. Some are so good I have even known some wedding photographers ( not me ) put stickers on their camera saying Pro version so they are not upstaged by uncle Bob who has just spent a fortune on his camera and would love to talk to you all about it
Look behind you!

Personally I don’t have a problem with any of this, apart from when my assistant is trying to arrange the next group shot for me to photograph only to find that half the people missing are in fact behind me with their cameras. And do you know what they are getting younger, look at these kids with a Nikon !

Mel and Chris chose to have a dramatic, darkly beautiful affair at the Sheffield Countryside Centre.

The ceremony conducted under the large tree in the centre by their friend and dressmaker George was to symbolize a bond between lovers, but unlike a marriage ceremony it is not legally recognised so a visit to the registrars office was due to happen later in the week.

The bride and groom pledged their vows to each other , in unison, in front of family and friends on a very cold February day.

You are feeling nervous about having your photograph taken on your wedding day
You want to get to know your photographer better
You would like to have a framed photograph of the two of you for guests to sign at the wedding. Or many other reasons like just wanting some informal but professional photographs of the two of you.

But last year it was all about dogs! “ We love our dogs, and as they can’t be with us on the big day we would like some pictures of them with us”

When Kirsty and Ben discussed with me their plans for a black tie period wedding at Fischers I was really excited about getting some great shots during the course of the evening. I then found out that Ben is a rocket scientist and so thought that it would be good to capture some very atmospheric outdoor shots at night to reflect the couples personality.

I think that these are pretty cool and certainly a million miles away from most wedding shots.

When a couple book me to photograph their wedding I will often suggest that they might want to give me some reference shots taken from magazines to act as guide to style and mood. This is a great way for them to express to me “Tony this is the look that I am after”

On a recent wedding I shot at Cressbrook Hall Laura the bride did just that and gave me a tear sheet of a group of people on the beach jumping in the air. Her reasoning was, that in addition to some of the more formal groups let’s have some fun!

We certainly did as the shots below will testify.

This time of year when the leaves are turning a golden yellow and the sun is low in the sky can all make for a lovely backdrop as this shot in the grounds of Fischers Baslow Hall demonstrates. Emma and Patrick had a fabulous day in October, sipping champagne and strolling through the autumn leaves.
